naevus plur. naevi
n. m. MED Tache colorée de la peau, d'origine congénitale. Certains naevi peuvent dégénérer en cancer. Syn. grain de beauté.

PATHOL. ,,Malformation congénitale de la peau, ayant la forme d'une tache ou d'une tumeur`` (Méd. Biol. t.3 1972). Naevus alopécique, pigmentaire, pileux, simple, vasculaire, verruqueux. La conscience de mon enlaidissement subit (engelure à l'oreille gauche, naevus sanguinolent à la joue droite, grisaillement à la nuque), me rendait honteux d'être et d'être vu (AMIEL, Journal, 1866, p.189). D'autres cancers résultent de la transformation de certains naevi. Il faut se méfier lorsqu'un naevus grandit rapidement, se boursoufle, fonce, s'entoure d'une auréole rose inflammatoire, parfois devient un peu douloureux (QUILLET Méd. 1965, p.312).
REM. Naevo-, élém. de compos. Naevo-cancer ou naevocarcinome, subst. masc. ,,Épithéliome d'une grande malignité, souvent pigmenté, développé aux dépens des naevi cellulaires`` (GARNIER-DEL. 1958).
